Ebola: Border Markets Shutdown in Donga Mantung

The administration of Donga  Mantung Division in the North West Region has closed all border markets in the Division in order to intensify the fight against the Ebola pandemic which has been reported on the other side of the divide. The Ako border market which is the largest in the Northwest region was closed. Yet other small markets in the division have been suspended till further notice. Speaking at a sensitization meeting yesterday September 12 at the Nkambe Community hall, Donga Mantjng SDO called on the population to join in the mitigation strategies. In his clarion call, the Senior Divisional Officer said that the fight to block Eboloa from entering into Cameroon through Donga Mantung Division is a collective fight that must be committed in the hands of God. Mr. Ngone Ndodemesape Bernard also call on the population to be very vigilant given the long and porous boundary with Nigeria. " You can hide a relative under your bed who has smuggled himself without knowing that it is ebola that you are keeping under your bed" he warned
He cautioned the population to be aware of the fact that charlatans will soon invade villages claiming that they are able to cure this or that disease. He cited the case of Binshua village where another charlatan was unmasked and ushered out of the division. He salso disclosed that it has been reported that some elements of the police were spotted collecting brides for some families to cross the border. "We know there are children the other side who went on holidays and vice-versa but since the borders have been closed, we have no other option than to repect it, he continued.
It should be recalled that a similar sensitization meeting took place at Sabongari on September 11 while that of Ako will hold on today September 13.
