President Buhari’s Official Visit to Cameroon: Here are the Expectations

Muhammadu Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria is expected in Cameroon tomorrow Wednesday July 29, 2015. Expectations are high at that President Paul Biya and President will develop new strategies to tackle the Islamic Sect, Boko Haram. Cameroonians and Nigerians are also expecting that the two statesmen will also adopt a new approach to support for a multinational army to fight the Boko Haram especially the recent suicide bombing. It is also expected that the two strong personalities will reinforce the trans-border security committee created in 2012 in order to tackle suicide bombing with a lot of severity given that in less than a week Cameroon and Nigeria have recorded a lot of deaths. In Cameroon, suicide bombings killed scores last week and several others wounded in the Northern Region.
However, Issa Tchiroma in a Release declared that relations between Cameroon and Nigeria are indeed marked by so many factors both geographical, historical, economic and cultural, which over time, have brought the two countries together to build strong ties, friendship, cordiality and fraternity. He said that geographically, Cameroon and Nigeria share a border of about 1 600 km, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the borders of Lake Chad. This border, real migratory corridor, opens the way for cultural and dense commercial exchanges between the people of both countries.
To date, statistics show that some 4 million Nigerians live permanently in Cameroon, and Cameroonians have a strong community established in Nigeria. Whether in Cameroon or Nigeria, the two communities are fully integrated with each other and live in harmony, in a spirit of peace, solidarity and mutual tolerance.
